45 minutes north of Hornsea lies Whitby and its ancient Abbey, inspiration for
Bram Stoker's Dracula . Once a burial place for anglo Saxon kings, it was the
synod of Whitby in 664AD who decided the system of dating for Easter. Whitby
is also famous as the home of Captain James Cook whose former home is now the
Captain Cook Memorial Museum.
